Choosing a healthcare provider – about Vårdval Stockholm (Om Vårdval Stockholm på engelska)
If you live in the County of Stockholm you can usually choose whereabouts in the county and to which healthcare provider you would like to go for care. Vårdval Stockholm, which was introduced in 2008, is a way of organising care, but it is above all a way of making it easier for you to choose a healthcare provider to suit you and your needs.
For example, you may choose a healthcare provider that:
- is near your home or work
- can see you quickly
- has opening times to suit you
- offers bookings via the internet
- speaks your language
- understands you
- you are familiar with
- someone has recommended.
What kinds of care does Vårdval Stockholm offer?
Vårdval Stockholm is constantly being expanded, and in future you will be able to choose a healthcare provider for a wider range of care than you can now. Vårdval Stockholm currently covers:
- medical centres/family doctor’s surgeries (vårdcentral/husläkarmottagning)
- antenatal clinics (barnmorskemottagning/mödravårdscentral {MVC})
- childbirth (förlossning)
- child welfare clinics (barnavårdscentral {BVC})
- chiropody (fotsjukvård)
- cataract operations (gråstarrsoperation)
- hip- and knee-prosthesis operations (höft- och knäprotesoperation)
- speech therapy (logopedverksamhet)
- fundus photography for diabetics (ögonbottenfotografering för diabetiker).
Which ones can I choose from?
You can choose from healthcare providers in the County of Stockholm that are authorised, i.e. centres that have been approved by Stockholm County Council. The quality requirements are the same, whether the centre is public or private.
How do I choose?
The easiest way to choose a medical centre is through the e-service Mina vårdkontakter (My Care Contacts). You can choose child welfare clinics in the same way. Alternatively you can indicate your choice on a form and send it to the centre or hand it in there. Click on the links to read more.
The information about the other types of care explains how to choose a centre. You can choose the type of care that is relevant to you from the menu on the left.
Tools for choosing
To make it easier for you to choose a medical centre, you can compare different centres here. You can compare telephone waiting times and how other patients feel they have been treated. Read more under Jämför vård (Compare Care).
Where there are waiting times, e.g. for an operation, you can compare waiting times for different centres. You can choose the type of care that is relevant to you from the menu on the left.
